New paintings from the 13 Baristas series by Adam Turl:
In 2028 two art school drop-outs and baristas formed the “13 Baristas Art Collective.” The goal of our collective was always to elevate the complex narratives of other “proletarians”—not reduced to some abstraction, nor seen in isolation from social class. We believed that our work should serve two purposes: 1) To assert the pathos of proletarian morality in the present. 2) And if we failed to abolish the current order, serve as cultural building blocks for those remaining, those who would rebuild in the ruins.
In July Adam Turl will be exhibiting his work along with other members of the November Network of Anti-Capitalist Visual and Studio Artists in St. Louis at the November Anti-Capitalist Art Show. The exhibit will also feature artwork by Anna Maria Tucker, Craig E. Ross, Kelly Gallagher, Danica Radoshevich, Ian Matchett and Sarah Levy, music by Thee Mistakes and Marathon. The event is open and free but there will be a fundraiser/concert for socialist Seattle council member Kshama Sawant with a suggested donation of $10 from 8-10pm on July 18.
